Social competence fosters trust-based relationships | Increasing individualisation and more flexible modes of working mean that co-operation and team management are becoming increasingly demanding. Added to this is the challenge of making the best use of existing diversity in terms of generation, culture and gender, whereby the success of a company depends on working as a team to generate value. As well as having a common direction and a shared understanding of performance, it is extremely important for team members to invest at the interpersonal level. Optimum interaction between all team players requires an appreciative attitude, as well as trust and a culture of open communication. In order to ensure maximum productivity and innovation, conflicts must be recognised at an early stage and eliminated as soon as possible. In this context the team leader is responsible for co-ordinating and directing performance.
